Oct 11, 2008 Wind Conditions: Light
Race Committee - Spirit, with an "honor system" start. Eight of us gathered and waited during a short postponement until the slightest of breezes came from the forecasted direction and was worthy of a start, no matter what. We were there and we were ready to race. The course as promissed took us a tour around a few of the islands (Long Is, Specker Heck, and both Canoe Is., all to startboard), and back to the LGC in about 3 hours. The first of our struggles was to get around the Cotton Point danger marks. That took the Viper and the J/80 an hour. The wind actually came in from the south and allowed us plenty of wind to get through the Assembly Point/Long Island cut, and then hoisting our spinnakers to the finish. As you can see by the times, the fleet stayed pretty close together considering the light winds and the long course. We all met afterwards at the "A" and awarded the "Golden Pumpkin" to Spencer and the crew of Wild Thing.
