Race 4

May 31, 2023      Wind Conditions: Light

Race 4 of the Wednesday Night Series gave us a very nice evening with light winds out of 180 deg.  We had 9 boats on the start line as more and more boats are getting in the water.  The RC with the help of Mike Bonn ( Woot) set a course of W4 a mile north of North Canoe governmaent mark.  At the start Code Flag X-Ray was displayed with 1 sound indicating that 3 boats were OCS (On Course Side) of the start lines.  The were hailed and all 3 came back and restarted.  Remember that if the "P" Flag (blue with white square) was displayed you DONOT have to go around the end, you need to only dip the line.  At the first mark Woot was first @ 16:53 followed by IkoIko, CutLoose and Windfall.  On the downwind leg Woot extended their lead and rounded @ 31:30 with IkoIko @ 32:15,  Windfall and CutLoose.  On the 3rd leg the evening winds shifted to the SSW and the usual decrease in velocity.  At the finish with BOTH Line Honors and 1st on Corrected time was the crew of Woot beating out IkoIko by 8 seconds.  Unclce Ludwig was 3rd.

Race3

May 24, 2023      Wind Conditions: Heavy

Oh What a Night!  Our 3rd race of the season brought 7 boats out to sail a W4 course from mid lake to the NE about 1.1 miles to a set mark tetrohydron.  The wind was ininially light to non existent buy during the 5 minute start sequence the wind filled in from the North with an attitude at 20+ knots.  Rodger and Dave on RC decided to motor up to the first mark and do a course change bringing the mark more northerly to align with the start line.  We made the call on the radio.  On the 2nd leg half of the fleet started to fly their chutes but all ended on main and headsail as the winds were heafty.  At the finish Woot was first across the line with Iko Iko second.  Iko Iko took 1st on corrected time followed by Witch Way and Eclat.  We had two boats as DNF.  The RC after the race went and retrieved the marks.  When trying to get the hip-it-tee-hop, I caught one end of the loose line around the prop.  Lucky for me when I put the outdrive up all the way the line slipped off.  I decided to leave the mark till the morning and went out and got it as planned.  Next week Woot will supply a person to assist me with the racing.

Race 2

May 17, 2023      Wind Conditions: Medium

The second race of the Wednesday Night series had a NNW wind that keep moving to the NW.  The race committe used the RC boat from the LG Club for the first time (with permission) because Lake George was hosting the J/24 US National Championship May 19, 20 and 21 of this year.  Besides the 6 regular racers we had 6 guest boats from off the lake using this race as a practice for the up coming regatta.  On board the RC boat was the Chip Till (PRO) for the regatta, Dave Dougall, Diana Voss (recorder) and Sandy Powel (flags) so that we could practice together for the upcoming event.  The RC had to move the boat 3 times in order to get aligned with the changing winds.  A course of W4 was used in the area between Canoe Is and Long Is with a tetrohedron set about .9 miles to the NW, using the hip-it-t-hop pin end as the leeward mark.  The race went off on time and with the winds moving left made to not too many tacks with a reach down wind.  At the finish line with line honors and 1st on corrected time was Redline @38:07.  Our local finishers were Woot @38:26, Iko Iko at 40:58, "t" @ 42:04, and Cut Loose @44:46.  There we elapsted times (not corrected).  For our local boat scoring on CT was Iko Iko 1st, Woot 2nd, "t" 3rd, and Cut Loose 4th.  The other 3 boats were either OCS or DNF.  This next Wednesday Night race we will be using Dave's "Blue Convertible"  for the RC boat.

Race 1

May 10, 2023      Wind Conditions: Medium

Happy Days are Here Again!  After a long winter, unless you ski, we sailors had our 1st race of the season with very nice sailing and a beautiful afternoon.  The RC with Dave and Rodger set a mark north near basin bay and the start line south of there about .9 miles, and set a W-4 course .  As the start sequence was going the wind started to veer to the left (west) as the forcast had predicted.  Uncle Ludwig decided on a Port start at the pin end and nailed it.  Witch Way was a bit late to the pin end start and the other three boats opted for the middle or boat end of the line.   Uncle Ludwig led the fleet to the first mark @ 10:17 with Witch Way, Woot, Fat Star and "t" behind.  The rest of the race was a follow the leader with Uncle Ludwig grabbing 1st place on line honors and corrected time.  Next weeks race the RC Boat will be the LG Club boat as we will have some off the lake J/24's for a practice race because of the J/24 National Championship regatta the end of next week.  There should be some high powered crews on the line this next week.  The after race party was held at the LG Holiday Inn and attended by crews for 4 of the 5 boats out on the water.
