Jul 13, 2008 Wind Conditions: Heavy
Race Committee: Wild Thing. With the threat of storms and a strong south wind already pushing whitecaps up the lake, Sam Walters suggested a course that would take the boats down south, where all these boats are berthed, in an attempt to get the race in and get everyone home before the front arrived. Start line was set up just north of Dome Island, Canoe Islands to port, Long Island to port, and a finish at Hogback. Moriah arrived late, giving the rest of the fleet a 7:45 head start, but sailed a great race and ended up second on corrected time. Cosmic Corner broke from the others after the start to make a strong run at the east shore, but in the end gave up a lot of ground on that long starboard tack. The other three boats stayed west of Dome after the start and played the right side of the course all the way down to Canoe. The storms held off and the racers stayed dry in what turned out to be a great sailing day on the lake.
