Jun 10, 2017 Wind Conditions: Medium
Congratulations to Ron Byrne and crew of Charjer on last Saturday's TI Race win. Perfect weather, but not enough to entice more than a handful of boats to the start line. No entries in the official spinnaker fleet to the northernmost mark. Happy Days, High Jinx and Charjer agreed to round Gull Island, near Hague, the traditional non-spinn fleet mark. Tony DiRado and Josh Koons on Hi Jinx led all the way down wind to the turnaround mark only to be passed on the upwind return by Charjer. Sam Walters on Happy Days sailed a strong race and very well might have won on corrected time had the wind not died at sunset after the other two boats had finished, and he did it without a spinnaker to boot.Y-Knot's new Sonar, skippered by Dave Whalen, was the only entry in the Sprint fleet rounding Dome Island. Unfortunately Dave's sip and puff controller stopped functioning just south of Dome, and he was forced to retire. Four Martin 16s from Y-Knot also competed in their own one-design fleet, rounding Dome Island and finishing at the Camp. All agreed that the day was just too beautiful and the conditions were too epic for such a low turnout. We'll work a little harder to make sure next years' race is enjoyed by more folks. So mark your calendars for June 2, 2018, and set your digital reminders along the way to get ready.
